Some fragrances are simply scents you enjoy.
Others take you somewhere.
For me, Donegal Fireside is one of those fragrances.
It takes me back to autumn, Halloween and holidays in Donegal — to chilly evenings, cosy rooms and that unmistakable feeling of wanting to get back somewhere warm after being outside.
And that is where the inspiration for this wax melt came from.
My memories of Halloween in Donegal
For years, I used to go to Donegal around Halloween.
I always loved being there at that time of year. The days were getting shorter, the evenings were darker and there was a real feeling that autumn had arrived.

There was something particularly cosy about coming back in after being outside in the cold.
And like so many places in Ireland, there is something very nostalgic about the smell of a fire.
That earthy, smoky, warm character is so closely tied to memories of autumn for me.
Years later, when I was creating my autumn fragrance collection, I wanted to capture that feeling of those cold evenings in Donegal. I wanted to create something warm, earthy and smoky — a fragrance that would bring those memories back whenever I melted it at home.
And Donegal Fireside seemed like the perfect name.
What does an Irish Turf wax melt smell like?
This is probably the question people ask most when they see Donegal Fireside.
The fragrance is inspired by the character of an Irish turf fire, with a warm, earthy and smoky feel.
But there is an important distinction.
A fragrance inspired by Irish turf isn't going to smell exactly like putting a piece of turf on a real fire.
Fragrance is a little more complicated than that.
Depending on the person, you might notice the smoky, woody character first, while someone else might pick up on the greener, earthy or aromatic elements.
And that's part of what makes fragrance so personal.
If you are looking for a wax melt with a cosy, earthy and smoky fireside character, Donegal Fireside is one to try.
Why I called it Donegal Fireside
The name isn't because I created the Irish Turf fragrance itself.
It's because of what the fragrance reminds me of.
Those Halloween trips to Donegal.
Cold autumn air.
Cosy evenings.
The warmth of coming back inside.
And the kind of scent that makes your home feel instantly more inviting.
I wanted the name to capture that feeling rather than simply calling it Irish Turf.
And somehow, Donegal Fireside just felt right.
A favourite with my customers
Donegal Fireside has become one of the fragrances that people come back to, and I've been lucky enough to receive some lovely feedback.
One of my Etsy customers described the fragrance as transporting her straight back to where her heart lives, while another bought it as a gift for someone connected to Donegal.
Those kinds of comments are exactly why I love making fragrances.
Because sometimes you're not really buying a wax melt.
You're buying a little reminder of somewhere.
A memory.
A person.
Or simply a feeling.
An Irish Turf scent for cosy evenings
Donegal Fireside is particularly lovely when you want your home to feel warm and cosy.
Think autumn evenings, a blanket on the sofa, a cup of tea and the lights turned down low.
It's a fragrance I naturally reach for as the evenings get darker and the seasons change.
And perhaps that's why it feels so special to me.
Every time I smell it, I get a little reminder of those Halloween holidays in Donegal.
